Am i being ripped off by my dentist?

I have been going to him for a few months now. I have medicaid so i never have to pay anything. I find him to be a great dr, i got about 6 fillings already with absolutely no pain, he works very quicly basically you can tell the guy knows what he is doing. I believe he has 25+ years of experience. I need to get a root canal done, and unfortunatelly my insurance isnt covering it, the dr said it will be 1400????? I have had 3 people already tell me thats WAY TOO MUCH. Idk what to do because he is a really good dr, and i feel i have grown to trust him so idk if i want to go to someone else, so is 1400 too much? Am i being ripped off? Or is this reasonable.... Help plz!!!
